Life Reflection by Vera Sta. Rit
0“I am giving you this endorsement. Present it to the hospital. You need to undergo dialysis now otherwise, your condition will worsen,” said Dr. Colago as he signed the prescription letter for my husband. He was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease – Stage 5.
Both speechless, I and my husband went out of the clinic and drove home. The verdict seemed to be an illusion.
As we reached home, he went upstairs. I was still immersed in my own thoughts when I heard that he was sobbing. I immediately went beside him. We prayed and cried together. Despite the weakness in my knees, I did my best to keep courage and comfort him.
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:2-4
Those words from the Scriptures came to mind and gave encouragement as we look upon the situation. It was a very trying moment but the LORD’s total sufficiency in our lives enabled us to cultivate heavenly joy.
In meditation, I would like to share three truths about trials:
1. Trials are sure to come.
James expressed the certainty of facing trials. Even though they are inevitable, joy is possible for the believer because of the light of GOD’s gracious promises and His salvation.
2. Trials produces steadfastness.
Trials are opportunities to strengthen our faith. By anchoring our lives in the coming fullness of the Kingdom of GOD, we have assurance that these will quickly pass compared to our glory in Jesus Christ.
3. Christ is our ultimate source of joy and hope in times of trial.
Sadly, many are misguided in their search for comfort. By grace, the eyes of a Christian are fixed to the immeasurable love of the Lord Jesus Christ as the fountain of joy and hope.
All things are for the good of those who hold on to Christ. Our souls are moved to persevere through trials of every kind!
