Let me proclaim Your might even to old age.

Not only in her graying years, but even as she drew close to death, her faith shown brightly, and God’s preserving grace did not leave her. We praise the Lord for her life of faith! It is her legacy to the next generation.

Psalm 71:18 “So even to old age, and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim Your might to another generation, your power to all those to come.”

What noble desire of David! He could have prayed for strength in his faltering faculty. He could have asked for peace and security in the land. Yet his singular desire is to reach the younger generation so they will know his God. How powerful and mighty, yet full of love.

May the Lord grant this desire in our hearts to reach out to the next generation, to our children and grandchildren. In our graying years, may we strive to proclaim the good news of salvation to the next generation. May we strive harder to give our best talent to contribute to spreading the Gospel as far as we are able.

Many reasons could hinder us: Physical illness, weakness, complacency, domestic concerns, relationships, etc. etc. But this verse is also an encouragement to proceed despite the obstacles; to keep on doing and seizing the short time we have to share the Gospel. It is not a big problem if we look at God, who is our help in doing His work.

May the Gospel be in our lips and in song until the day we die.

Prayer

Lord put this desire in our hearts, and go with us. Fire-up our willingness to share the Gospel to the next generation. Use all the talents You have given us to reach the lost souls in our midst.
All for the glory of Your name. In Christ’s name. Amen
