Death by Ignorance
One fine morning, there was a flurry of activities in the village park. Workers were clearing of the area that circles the park. They clipped the unruly bougainvillea branches, cut the grasses, and removed tangling vines.A permanent fixture in the park was this very special ornamental vine (Cat’s Claw Trumpet) hosted by one of the Narra trees. It was planted 30 or more years ago by one of the residents. Every summer, the villagers are treated to a grand display of its glorious yellow bloom, which amazingly covers the entire canopy of the Narra tree. How breathtakingly beautiful indeed!
But the workers saw this vine as an unsightly nuisance. With a chainsaw in hand, they cut the life of the vine hugging the Narra tree. They needed a chain saw because the vine was already as thick as a child’s leg. Within minutes, the beautiful vine instantly loosens its grip to its long-time companion. Had these men knew, they would not have touched it. But because of ignorance, they ended the vine’s beautiful existence which provided delight to the villagers for more than 30 years. It was utterly lamentable.
Yet these men left us a valuable lesson. Ignorance is not always bliss. In many instances, ignorance can kill in many blows. For instance, not knowing the basic first aid can worsen our pains or can lead to death. Not knowing that we are dealing with hooligans can bring us to trouble with them.
But there is the worst kind of ignorance. Not knowing the answers to the fundamental questions of life has terrible eternal consequences. What is my purpose for living? How can I be right with God? Where will I go when I die? How can I be saved from my sins? How can I fulfill my duties well to my family and society?
Answers to man’s fundamental questions are written in the Bible. According to 2 Timothy 2:16 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
The Bible is life’s basic textbook. Read the Bible because it is the only book that can teach us about a saving faith in Christ alone. It is important to know about Christ, because He is the only One who can help us escape our impending Death By Ignorance.
As believers in Christ, reading the Bible can also help us escape the misery of living in this sinful world. As we are confronted by all sorts of trials every day, the Bible will guard the peace and joy in our hearts. Troubles may come, but we are safe in the eye of the storm. What peace to know that by the grace of God, we have escaped Death by Ignorance.
Lord, thank You for saving our souls from Death by Ignorance. Thank You Lord Jesus for dying on the cross for us. Help us to seize the time to tell of your salvation to the multitude who are going to their impending death that opens up to hell. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen,
